Staff understood their role in supporting people to make choices. We observed that people were relaxed with staff and there was a friendly atmosphere. People were supported by staff who had the necessary training and skills to support them. Training was provided in a number of areas and refresher sessions were booked for certain topics on a regular basis.

The Care Quality Commission has monitored Abbey View since February 2013. The CQC last updated their ratings of the care home in November 2016, giving it an overall rating of good. People were supported by staff who respected their privacy and dignity. Cool Runnings Too 63 The Park, Yeovil, BA20 1DF ★★★☆ Cool Runnings Too is a small residental home situated in Yeovil, with twelve beds. The residency cares for adults over 65 with sensory impairment. The residency also cares for residents with Alzheimer's and other forms of dementia and physical disabilities. People's choices were respected and people were assisted to choose as much of their routine themselves as possible.
People had individual risk assessments but these were not always recorded accurately. Staff were aware of the risks people faced and their role in managing risk. The registered manager had a plan in place to improve the consistency of recording. Staff demonstrated a good awareness of each person's safety and how to minimise risks for them. The environment was safe, and people had access to appropriate mobility and moving and handling equipment needed. This is the latest available inspection report for this service, carried out on 11th December 2008.
For example, there was a catering committee where people represented the views of people about the catering service and quality of menus. The registered manager and management team had daily contact with staff and people to hear about issues or complaints.
